With the start of the new year many people sit down and make resolutions and set personal goals for themselves for a better year. How do they do it? Simply put, a goal is something that you want to achieve. Clearly defined goals help establish new habits and focus on what is important.
Setting goals can help motivate you throughout the year to try new things, learn a new skill, and achieve more. Remember that the best goals are realistic, achievable, and meaningful. When deciding on your goals, consider your passions, what you can and cannot control, and what you want your future to hold.
When I played soccer in high school I set a goal to be team captain my senior year. I worked hard practicing during the off-season and ran with the cross-country team the summer before tryouts. I was far from the top player on the team – I wasn’t even a starting player – but my hard work and dedication to my goal paid off and I was team captain my senior year.
