Feeding Groups

What is a Feeding Group?

Flexible Feeders:

TEAM 4 Kids is excited to offer feeding groups designed to increase your child’s exposure to a variety of novel foods and work on problem-solving skills regarding nonpreferred foods in a peer setting to improve our tolerance of age-appropriate foods. Each week a new lesson is introduced including participant homework and informational parent handouts.

Younger Groups:

TEAM 4 Kids is excited to offer feeding groups designed to increase your child’s exposure to various novel foods in a peer setting. Each month, our feeding group food lists utilize food chaining to assist with familiarizing your child with a variety of food. During the holiday season, our food lists include foods that are likely to be encountered at social gatherings. Each food on the list is paired with various characteristics, including color, shape, temperature, and more! Your child will be walked through the steps of touching, smelling, licking, and biting each novel food. Our feeding groups are separated into varying times and days based on age and ability level.

Who benefits from Feeding Groups?

Feeding groups are beneficial for children who have a limited amount of food in their diet and are open to the idea of interacting with a variety of food in a peer setting. Children in the group have the ability to follow simple directions and are able to separate from their parents/caregivers to attend the group.

What activities do you do in this group?

Flexible Feeders:

During this feeding group, TEAM 4 Kids provides five different foods that may include fruits, vegetables, and proteins that are all linked together using characteristics of the food. A lesson will be taught covering why we need to eat a variety of foods, listening to our body cues to know when it’s time to eat, how to learn about foods in a positive or neutral way, and more! We will practice using all of our senses to learn about novel foods.

Younger Groups:

During our feeding groups, TEAM 4 Kids provides five different foods, including fruits, vegetables, and proteins, linked together using their characteristics. Your child will be introduced to each food by talking about how it feels, looks, smells, and tastes, using all of our senses to learn about the novel food presented.
